As we approach another anniversary in our business, 18 years! We have revisited the questions still asked of us, Why? How? So we asked ourselves these questions why do we do what we do and how are we doing? I have found myself saying again “I do it because I love it, and I think we offer a great product and service to people you have great needs.” I heard again today the statistic 1 in 8 babies are born premature. I watched this video:

She is the youngest baby, surviving at 21 weeks.

They are just miracles, needing to be clothed.

Even though there are new storefronts opening on the web all the time, they will be hard-pressed to come anywhere close to matching our experience, sizing and selection. Since 1993, we’ve done the medical research, consulted with NICU staff, and dialogued with Preemie parents to determine just what a Preemie baby needs in regard to their clothing and accessories. We manufacture our own Perfectly Preemie Signature Design line of clothing to best meet these requirements. We’ve also looked far and wide for the best Preemie gear and products from other manufacturers to ensure that you find everything needed here in one stop.

That is How we do it, with years of experience and listening to our customers. We have revised some of our patterns, added some great new features. (Stay tuned for these postings) This has come from listening to what people had to say. If you have a comment, review or suggestion, please let me know.

I came across this great Video series that Pampers has put together of the early arrival of a little girl named Addyson. She surprised her parents by arriving at 25 weeks, weighing 1lb 7 oz.

The Smolinski family has seen triumph and hardship, but above all, love. Raising a preemie is their newest challenge. Born on 04/19/10-3 months early-Addyson is a bright-eyed beauty who must overcome a number of obstacles, including a low birth weight and increasing health complications. As the family quickly learns, sometimes with strides forward come little baby steps back.

All of us here at Perfectly Preemie love to share these stories of hope, love and success in trying times. We pray these stories give you the same hope for your success during your NICU experience.

We are also excited to recognize some of our clothing being worn by Addyson!

Please take a few minutes, and you might want to grab a tissue, and check out these great videos:

Do you know a baby who was born too soon, too small, unable to breathe or nurse on their own? With 1 in every 8 babies born prematurely, you probably do. While medical advances give some babies a chance of survival, for many babies premature birth is a life-or-death condition. Babies who survive can face serious health challenges and risk lifelong disabilities.

The rate of premature birth has risen more than 30 percent since 1981. In half the cases, we simply don’t understand what went wrong. The March of Dimes is leading the fight for answers. And, ultimately, preventions.

November 17 is dedicated to raising awareness of the crisis.

Visit http://shareyourstory.org to Join the online community for NICU families and learn how to get involved.

We need to fight ― because babies shouldn’t have to.

I am not sure I would have that first on my mind, but I read a story today of a lady who did exactly that. She had been saving frozen breast milk for months, for her preemie daughter. Her daughter Lillian was born 4 months premature and suffered from a condition called necrotizing enterocolitis, where blood circulation was cut off to portions of their bowel. Unfortunately, Lilli, as she was called, died before she could use much of her mother’s saved breast milk. Lillian’s Mom said “It would have made me sick to throw it out”, so it was just a no-brainier she donated the milk to a baby also born 4 months early with the same condition and saved a babies life.

That little guy, Max is ready to go home today due to the generosity of a hurting Mom, a true Hero in our eyes. I think Lillian would be so Proud, and so are we.

I read this article today, and thought it was so inspiring I wanted to share it with you. Many of us have been touched by the work that incredible Doctors do in the NICU. Well, here is one of the pioneers in the field and he has been at it for 50 years! He has helped save the lives of 30,000 babies and is the Co-founder of the California Perinatal Association. I am sure that if his accomplishments were to be listed they would go on page after page, since Professor Emeritus Phillip Sunshine MD started his journey back in 1957!!!

The best statistic is that when he started his career, the preemie survival rate was less than 50%, now it is well over 90%, just another fact to celebrate!

Click on the above link (just under the title) to read the complete article about Dr. Sunshine and you’ll see how appropriate his last name is…
The March of Dimes has invited bloggers everywhere to get involved. We need to fight ― because babies shouldn’t have to. I was drawn to one of the stories on Bloggers Unite written by a mother named Karen. The amazing thing is that her “life tumbled out of control” exactly 17 years ago today, when her precious son “started too early.” Reading about her experience with a baby that decided to come 8 weeks early and all the struggles touched me today. The best part of her story is how her son, Dude, is now a healthy young man of 17 and one of the “sweetest boys you’ll ever meet!”

You’ll enjoy reading the full account here on her Write From Karen blog. It will both inspire and encourage you – especially if you are dealing with a little one that has started too early…even as we speak…
