What in the world do you need for the tiniest babies on earth? Perfectly Preemie was created and designed by a mother of three who knows what you really NEED, and what you'll really LOVE when it comes to preemie baby clothes and accessories. We've done our research with the Doctors, Nurses and Parents of preemies, so we know what is required in the NICU and for heading home. Here is a list of what we consider preemie essentials for your baby's first few months and beyond. We've put these in order of need from a preemie's stay in the NICU to living at home. We start with our Perfectly Preemie Signature Designs that are manufactured by our own people in the United States and are available online exclusively through us.
Nic-T's & Nic-Gowns
These tiny garments have wonderful plastic snaps on the shoulders and down the front that make dealing with IV's and monitors a breeze. They are the only T's & gowns with plastic snaps available on the market. The snaps do not heat up and potentially hurt the skin, interfere with x-rays and aren't scratchy (like velcro can be). The gown is just a longer version of the T and also includes a matching knot hat. Mix it up with the long and short, a couple to take home and wash, and some for the nurses to use when you're not able to be there. Sweet-T's
These little T-shirts are a great beginning for any size preemie. They have a velcro closure in the front and wrap up around the diaper with ties on each side for a sweet look that's easy to wear.
Cozie Toezie
Cozie Toezies are a great hybrid style for use in the NICU combining the comfort of a Sleep Sac with the convenience of a Nic-Gown. This sleeper has open sides to provide access for any monitors or IV cording on both sides. The front has soft velcro closures for easy on and off, just lay the baby down and tuck in around them. The back folds up to the front to keep little feet cozy and then can also be flipped to the back again for easy access.
Baggettes
This long bag has a fold over bottom to keep toes warm & cozy while still providing easy access for those diaper changes. Fold over knit cuffs help to keep the hands covered and warm and their face free from scratches. The fold over bottom prevents the bag from riding up during sleeping, yet still giving great access. This is a better alternative to the old elastic bottoms and string pull ties.
Other Clothing & Accessories
Sleep Sac
A definite must have for night time wear, the sleep sac has snaps from neck to toes making dressing and diaper changing easy. As a bonus, these come with a matching hat.
Hats
Keep a few at the hospital for a little extra warmth. Some hospitals have times when they may not want the preemie dressed, so having some cute hats ready to help hold in their body heat is always welcomed.
Swaddle Blankets
A nice snug swaddle is great for calming an overstimulated and/or tired newborn baby. Go for soft and thin, preferably square, for that perfect swaddle, or try out the SwaddleMe blankets which make swaddling so much easier. Bodysuits
These garments are bound to be your most used, so be sure to have several. Mix them up with long sleeve and short sleeve. Pair them with pants or wear them under other outfits for extra warmth and to keep the baby swaddled.
Side Snap Gowns & Sets
These gowns work wonderfully well for easy dressing, just open them up, lay down baby and snap a few snaps on each side. An open bottom gives access for any diaper change or other need in the NICU. The sleeves have great fold over cuffs to cover those little hands. Each gown also comes with a cute little matching knot hat. The side snap T- Shirt also has fold back mittens and easy dressing with two snaps on each side. The shirt can be worn alone as a gown, and then as the little one grows, the pants can be utilized to make a complete outfit. The pants also have the fold over cuffs to keep little toezies warm. Our side snaps are produced with cover-stitching all the way around the edges for a more finished look. Both the gowns and T-Shirt sets are great choices, it just depends if baby is in a sleepy mood or ready for a little runabout!
One Pieces
One pieces (a.ka. as footies or sleep 'n plays and double snaps) are great because they cover head to toe and won't bunch up on baby. They are so cute and practical at the same time!
Booties
Several pairs of socks and booties are needed to keep those little feeties warm and we have extremely cute choices for you!
Mittens
We suggest at least a few pairs to keep their face free from scratches - especially if the baby is wearing something without foldover cuffs. You know babies just love to have their hands up near their face!
Pacifiers
Very important to have a pacifier or two that fits your baby's needs without trimming! When you cut down a pacifier, it no longer meets safety guidelines. Babies can be put at risk with an unsafe pacifier and the possibility of loose bits of silicone. The pacifiers we carry have been designed to fit your baby'sface - even in the face of tubes and cannulas.
Diapers
Standard diapers aren't made to fit most preemies, so we have two different brands available for you. The Cuddle Buns Diaper is sized for the 2 to 5lb baby. The Swaddlers New Baby Diaper is designed for babies up to 6lbs - so a tad larger in size.
Car Seat
Your precious light weight bundle also has special requirements for transportation! These special seats or beds enable
hospitals to send infants home earlier by providing for supine or prone - lying face up or down - positioning.

The above list is a good rule of thumb for the "Must Have's" of preemie wear and care. We could go on and on with all of the great
products we carry, from plush teddy bears and
huggybuddy blankets to comfort the little one that is away from Mommy and Daddy
to bottle totes to transport breast milk to and fro. We also have
memory books to help record all of the "firsts" these little ones will
accomplish, as well as
wraps to hold them as close to your heart as possible with kangaroo care.
