Five Reasons Bamboo is our New Fabric!

The last few years have brought us many challenges and, hopefully, many blessings as well. For Perfectly Preemie, it slowed things down a bit and enabled us to get some things off our wish list. First, we have been able to upgrade our velcro to the newest product offered by Velcro, Sleek, and Thin. To read more, click here. The next big thing was to do some exclusive prints on the softest fabric, bamboo! So we are super excited to receive our first style back made out of this fantastic fabric.

Why are we so excited about bamboo? Guess I would have to ask, have you ever felt bamboo? It is just wonderfully soft.

So why wouldn't we want to make the best preemie clothes out of the softest fabric?

Here are just five reasons we love bamboo:

  1. One of the softest fabrics on the planet - you'll love how it feels.
  2. Antibacterial - keeps you odor-free and feeling and smelling fresh
  3. Powerfully insulating - keeps you cooler in summer and warmer in winter
  4. Hypoallergenic - natural bamboo does not cause allergic reactions
  5. Most eco-friendly fabric on the planet - help save your planet

To understand more of why bamboo is so good, here are some details from this article: Benefits of Bamboo.

Unlike many other fabrics, bamboo is highly breathable. The natural bamboo plant keeps itself cool in the heat, and like its other properties, these properties are maintained in the fabric form. The cross-section of the bamboo fiber is covered with micro-gaps giving the fabric better moisture absorption and ventilation. As a result, it is able to keep the wearer almost two degrees cooler in the heat and noticeably warmer in the cold. Bamboo fabric is also "anti-static and UV protective as it cuts out 98% of harmful UV rays" providing the wearer with another beneficial quality from bamboo made clothing. The process of making Bamboo fabric does not require any chemical treatment, which causes the fibers to be naturally smoother and rounder with no sharp spurs to irritate the skin, making bamboo fabric hypoallergenic and perfect for those who may experience allergic reactions to other natural fibers. Bamboo is also antibacterial and antifungal. This is because bamboo possesses an anti-bacteria and bacteriostatic bio-agent called "Bamboo Kun" , allowing it to naturally flourish and grow in the wild without the use of pesticides or fertilizers. This beneficial quality of the plant remains in its textile form, killing all bacteria keeping the wearer feeling fresher and odor free for longer, making the garment healthier and more hygienic.

Like your average garment, bamboo fabric can be washed. For the best maintenance of bamboo clothing, it should be washed using the gentle cycle, cold or lukewarm water, dry on low heat or even better to hang to dry.

The most enticing aspect of bamboo fabric is that it is the most eco-friendly fabric on the planet. Bamboo, a type of tropical grass, has an extensive rooting system that grows on average four to six new shoots a year, naturally replenishing itself. It is also 100% biodegradable, the most renewable resource on our planet. In addition, it provides an abundance of usable oxygen, making it a crucial element in balancing oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere."

These are some of the technical reasons to love bamboo. I will go back to how soft it is! The bamboo we sourced also has a flannel-like inside, adding to the softness of the fabric. Currently, we have our Baggette Gowns, NIC-Crossover Baggette and NIC Sweet-tee available in the new Bamboo fabric.

The feedback we are hearing from customers is simply wonderful:

"Those bamboo fabrics are HEAVENLY for my baby niece."

"This was a gift!! The gown is beautiful and so soft!"

"The gown was so soft and fit perfectly!"

"This little yellow sleeper is sooo soft! And stretchy too. Definitely recommend!"

I hope you feel the same way we do and fall in LOVE with this new fabric. We will be adding more styles, so keep your eye out, more to come!
